Biomimicry- (from bios, meaning life, and mimesis, to imitate) is the examination of nature, it's models, systems, proceses, and elements to emulate or take inspiration from in order to solve human problems
Biodegradeable- organic matter that can physcially breakdown in it's environment. Aerobically with oxygen and anaerobically without oxygen. Biodegradeable products include paper, plant and food waste. Biodegradable material will not break down in a landfill.The only way a biodegradable product can decompose without environmental impact is through composting.
Compost- Composting is natures way of decomposing organic material. The decomposition of plant remains and other once-living materials to make an earthy, dark, crumbly substance is an excellent source of nutriens for houseplants or enriching garden soil. Backyard composting, worm composting, and grass cycling are the most common type of composting.
Eco Friendly Also known as environmentally friendly, refers to goods and services that do not impact the environment.
Fair Trade Certified- Fair working, eco farming, and community supported.
GMO (Genetically Mofidified Organism) - DNA altered plants or animals to make varieties more pest, disease, or chemical resistant. GMO seeds are controversial because no one is sure of their long term effects on the environment and humans-
Grass Fed Beef - Grass fed beef eats grass and forages on pasture and is not fed antibiotics or growth hormones.
Hybrid- A variety created by crossing two separate varieties to achieve desirable charactertics.
Organic- Organic refers to the way agricutlrueal products are grown and processed. Organic seed much like organic food production, is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic pesticides and inorganic fertilizers.
Marine Stewardship Council- Certifies well managed fisheries that are salmon safe products. Including beer, cheese and produce that are protecting salmon that are in water sheds and there habitat.
Range Free Chicken- Range Free Chickens roam free and eat a natural diet.They raised without antibiotics or growth hormones. They have room to grow. They are tastier and healthier for consumption.
Sustainability- Sustainability according to the EPA "is a synergy between business and the environment". By choosing a sustainable lifestyle you are choosing a less invasive impact on the planet.
USDA Organic- No hormones, antiobiotics, pesticideds, and GMO's.
Wild Caught- Fish Caught during legal fishing season in the wild.
